Here’s a little process post for the last two illustrations.

For Bukowski readings I had a pretty clear idea from the start, clouds of smoke connecting the poet and the audience, present & past, etc etc, cheesy as cheese. The first attempt didn’t go too well, so I redrew the thing, then added some booze & books. Bukowski’s face had to undergo a textural bump-lift, so I went over it with a dry brush and adjusted the colors a bit. Finally, a tasteful touch of lens flare really tied the whole thing together.

For Copernicus I went through a shitload of sketches, all pretty similar. The printed size is super tiny, so I tried to put minimal detail. The gloomy sky lacked some panache, so I turned to Blingee for help. Perfection! For further assignments I think I’ll do the entire illustration in Blingee.
