Here’s a constrained strip: took a 9-word line from a frustrating autobio thing (that I soon abandoned altogether), put it into the first panel of a 9-p grid, deleted a word in each subsequent panel and rearranged the words trying to make up a slightly different phrase each time (sometime compromising grammar, sorry). Then I drew the beloved bird gent to link the resulting phrases into a sort of story. Now that’s proper entertainment.

Anyway, it’s the last strip of YZ3, which I will soon start printing. If you missed my kickstarter, you can get it at TCAF (details later).

Hey gang, I finally have NEW PRINTS for sale!

Hang a print of Ulysses on your wall to impress an oppsexed/samesexed person (quote heaventree of stars etc), not sure if male or female in a forest to make him/her think you’re in touch with nature, buttocksniffing dawgs for um yes OK! butt not today, little hands and delicious combover for a touch of well fashun, Halloween if you’re from the past, Locus Solus to really impress your smarty-pants friends (great icebreaker, mention the blood-vomiting cock and Roussel’s automobile admired by the Pope & Mussolini) and some old garbage. Uh, why do I even bother…

Uhhh, drawing directly in Photoshop is so easy on a decent computer, why did I ever bother with brush & ink. I feel cheated and angry for wasting several years on developing a completely useless skill. Not to mention that it would’ve been so much easier for my commercial illustration, with all the incessant changes and fixes you have to make after the final is done. But now my portfolio is all brush crap, though I’ll probably try to gradually change it..

And no, I don’t even want to think about alternatives to hand-lettering, my heart cannot take it.

Illustration for Wall Street Journal about retirement. I’m becoming increasingly preoccupied with my own mortality, and drawing cheery older couples felt strange—I have constant recurring nightmares of dying horrible deaths and I definitely don’t expect myself to look like these two if I manage to live long enough.

It took a few steps, so I can post some process bits if anyone is interested.
